Combine With
Combines well with lime flower or skullcap for a relaxing night time drink, or with hawthorn and lime flower for high blood pressure. Mix with St John's Wort for an uplifting and relaxing nerve tonic. Mix with lemon verbena for a pleasant, naturally lemony tasting tea; this can be drunk cold with ice and lemon. Drink lemon balm freely during herpes outbreaks.
Directions for Use
One to two teaspoons to one cup of boiling water. Brew for 10 minutes, strain and drink up to four times daily.
Precautions
Lemon balm is considered to have a hypothyroid effect by some authorities, but this has not been proven by scientific research.
Notes on the Herb
This humble plant is a very valuable herbal medicine. It is calming and uplifting, ideal for anxiety and mild depression and palpitations of nervous origin. It has a beneficial effect on the digestive system, especially where anxiety plays a part.
